Do you have a project that has made a real difference to staff wellbeing in Acute Medicine?
The Society for Acute Medicine (SAM) in association with the FPM (Fellowship of Postgraduate Medicine) are delighted to launch the SAM Wellbeing QI Competition celebrating quality improvement initiatives that help multidisciplinary teams flourish in the workplace.
The wellbeing of healthcare professionals is fundamental to delivering safe, compassionate, and high-quality patient care. Across Acute Medicine, teams are developing innovative solutions to support staff wellbeing, improve workplace culture, and create environments where colleagues can thrive. SAM wants to showcase and celebrate this work.
We invite members to submit a 400-word report describing a Quality Improvement Project (QIP) or intervention that has positively impacted the wellbeing and flourishing of the acute medicine workforce. Projects may focus on doctors, nurses, pharmacists, AHPs, healthcare support workers, or the wider multidisciplinary team.
Examples might include:
- Wellbeing programmes such as mindfulness initiatives or peer-support groups
- Innovative rota or workforce solutions that promote work-life balance
- Improvements to staff rest and wellbeing spaces
- Digital tools that reduce stress or improve workload management
- Initiatives that enhance team cohesion, inclusion, psychological safety, or workplace culture
Reports should follow a standard QI format, including:
- Introduction & Aim
- Methods
- Results
- Discussion
- Equality Impact Assessment
To allow sufficient time for implementation and evaluation, submissions will remain open for six months, with a deadline of 31st August 2027. At least one member of the project team must be a doctor.
Projects will be assessed by a SAM-appointed judging panel using a standard marking scheme. The winning team will receive a cash prize and will have the opportunity to showcase their work at a future SAM Conference and on the SAM website. Whether your project is a small local intervention or a large-scale service improvement, we encourage you to share your learning and inspire others across the Acute Medicine community.
Let’s celebrate and spread the work that helps our teams flourish on the frontline.
Submission deadline: 31th August 2027. Entries should be emailed to administrator@acutemedicine.org.uk
