CPD AS YOU WEE!
What on earth is CPD as you wee?
This is an idea shamelessly stolen from our emergency medical colleagues.
Produce a one A4 page of knowledge that can be rapidly absorbed into your brain whilst you are on the loo.
It’s a bit of fun, but also a really good way of passing on some key information.
Before you start
Needs laminating (for obvious reasons) and make sure your IPC team are ok.
Check with your Governance lead – we will check the content before we release but you will also need someone to take responsibility too.
Practicalities…
One on the door - for sit down toilet trips
One on the wall behind the toilet - for those standing toilet trips
Do I have to use the examples below?
Absolutely not!
These have been produced to make your life easier, however they are much better if tailored to your department.
For example - had a near miss with gentamicin and myasthenia? – One of your actions could be to highlight it on CPD as you wee!
Downsides
- Environmental issues and paper use – we tried QR codes, didn’t have same impact and we weren’t keen to encourage people to get mobiles out mid pee! If you think of a way to make it more environmental – let us know
- It can turn into essays – hard to keep snappy (as you’ll see from some of ours)
- Facts can change and we are all human, so can get things wrong. Please check content before using!

Vicky Price is an Acute physician at Liverpool University Hospital Trust and also the current President Elect for The Society for Acute Medicine. Whilst Vicky thinks she is still very young the others like to remind her that she is in fact the oldest of the group and she works hard to avoid saying "in my day"! Vicky has a special interest in Ambulatory Care and is always keen to help keep people out of hospital where possible. She is also interested in end of life care, especially ways we can improve this in the acute setting. Outside of work, most of her free time is spent with her 3 amazing daughters (baking, running, exploring and arguing) and occasionally even gets some quality time with her wonderful and very understanding husband.
