Pharmacy

Committed to quality care

Pharmacy teams working in acute medicine have two main priorities: firstly achieving a full medicine reconciliation as early as possible in a patient’s stay and secondly facilitating rapid discharge. Acute medical units are often high turnover and patients may be both unwell and complex so different ways of working may be required to those used on general hospital wards.

Learning and networking opportunities

SAM is a multidisciplinary society which values the input of all healthcare professionals. It offers a forum for career grade acute medicine pharmacists to share ideas and develop their knowledge and skills. The twice-yearly multidisciplinary conferences have a varied and stimulating programme affording excellent CPD for pharmacists in addition to important networking opportunities. The posters and short oral presentation sessions provide a forum to share the work which pharmacy teams are doing in acute medicine and its impact on patient care. The quarterly journal contains the latest peer reviewed research from AMUs in addition to unusual case studies and makes interesting reading.
