Who's Involved
Vicky Price is an Acute physician at Liverpool University Hospital Trust and also the current Secretary for The Society for Acute Medicine. Whilst Vicky thinks she is still very young the others like to remind her that she is in fact the oldest of the group and she works hard to avoid saying "in my day"! Vicky has a special interest in Ambulatory Care and is always keen to help keep people out of hospital where possible. She is also interested in end of life care, especially ways we can improve this in the acute setting. Outside of work, most of her free time is spent with her 3 amazing daughters (baking, running, exploring and arguing) and occasionally even gets some quality time with her wonderful and very understanding husband.
Peter Ng graduated from Liverpool University in 2008 and also intercalated in Pharmacology as an undergraduate. He continued to pursue his interest in pharmacology by developing a specialist interest in Medical Toxicology as an AIM trainee, as well as being an advocate for Point of Care Ultrasound being a supervisor for Focused Acute Medical Ultrasound (FAMUS) and accredited in Focused Intensive Care Echocardiography (FICE). His passion for Acute Medicine drove him to enjoy a year promoting the specialty as a takeAIM Fellow. During long commutes as a trainee, he discovered podcasts and continue to follow several medical podcasts but has been conscious of the lack of decent UK based medical podcasts, and in particular podcasts specifically for Acute Internal Medicine. Since then, he has always hoped to develop an educational podcast specifically aimed for all those working within Acute Internal Medicine.
Damian Dooey is an Acute Medical Consultant at Warrington Hospital since 2021. He is the New Consultant representative on the Society for Acute Medicine Council, having previously been the Trainee Representative and Prior takeAIM fellow. He is interested in leadership and management having done the Chief registrar programme through RCP, and has a keen interest in Point of care Ultrasound. Damian’s current project at Warrington is the setting up of the Enhanced Care Unit.
Mike Wheble is a Consultant in Acute Medicine at the Royal Bournemouth Hospital in Dorset. He graduated in 2003 from Leicester University. He completed a Masters in Medical leadership during his Registrar training in the Wessex Deanery. Mike was appointed a Consultant in 2015, he has been a member of SAM for nearly 10 years and was the local organiser for the conference in Bournemouth in September 2018. Mike joined the SAM council as Treasurer in November 2019. Mike holds the role of GIM Training Programme Director in Wessex and is passionate about supporting and developing the next generation of Acute Physicians, he is proud to be a takeAIM champion. He is passionate about supporting the next generation coming through and hopes the Podcasts are interesting and informative for all of SAM’s membership. Outside of Medicine Mike enjoys spending time with his wife and two children, walking their West Highland Terrier and playing Cricket for the local Hospital team at weekends.
Kelham Slinger is an Acute Medicine Consultant at University Hospitals Dorset. He is the local RCP College Tutor and SAM Education Committee Lead. During his Registrar training he developed his interests in Medical Education by completing a Postgraduate Diploma from Cardiff University and led the Wessex Deanery Medical Education Fellows. He was previously the SAM Trainee Representative. In his spare time, he enjoys running and exploring the local area with his Wife and two children. He hopes to follow the Formula 1 calendar around the world...perhaps one day.
