Welcome to the Learning Hub!
A home for Acute Medicine education.
The SAM Learning Hub brings together webinars, podcasts, educational resources, courses and projects from across the Society and is managed by the Training and Education Committee.
Whether you're a resident doctor, consultant or member of the multidisciplinary team, our aim is to provide practical, high-quality education that supports you throughout your career—and we'd love you to help shape what's next.
About the Committee
The Training & Education Committee brings together a fantastic mix of people from across the Acute Medicine community. Our members include representatives from SAM Council, takeAIM, resident doctors, new and experienced consultants, and multidisciplinary colleagues from across the UK.
We believe the best educational ideas come from bringing together different experiences and perspectives. Whether you're just starting your career in Acute Medicine or have years of experience, everyone has something valuable to contribute.
Our committee meets regularly to shape the Society's educational programme, develop new resources and support educational initiatives that benefit the whole Acute Medicine community.
Meet the Chair
Dr Beth Griffith
Beth is a Consultant in Acute Medicine at Mid Cheshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and is currently on sabbatical at Landspítali University Hospital in Reykjavík, where she's helping develop Acute Medicine services in Iceland.
Beth has been involved with SAM for a number of years, first as a takeAIM Fellow and later as the New Consultant Representative, and ecoSAM lead, before becoming Chair of the Training & Education Committee.
Education has always been a huge part of Beth's career. She is Education Lead for the Mersey AIM Training Programme, a FAMUS Supervisor, and has led the development of structured educational programmes for Acute Medicine residents, including co-developing AWESAM with colleagues across SAM to help senior registrars prepare for consultant life.
She loves teaching Acute Medicine - from the bread-and-butter clinical topics we all see every day or the parts of the job that don't always make it into the curriculum. Her interests include practical, on-the-job learning for the whole acute medicine MDT, and she's also interested in the hidden curriculum of leadership, communication and non-clinical topics.
As Chair, Beth wants the committee to keep bringing fresh ideas to SAM: new speakers, new topics and new ways of learning, while making it easier than ever for members to get involved and share their expertise. She firmly believes some of the best educational ideas come from people who have never spoken at a national meeting before, and would love to hear from anyone with an idea to share.
What We Do
The committee oversees and develops SAM's educational resources, with the aim of delivering practical, relevant and engaging education for the Acute Medicine multidisciplinary team.
Our work includes:
- Identifying new educational topics, speakers and innovative ways to learn.
- Developing the SAM webinar programme.
- Supporting the SAM podcast series.
- Organising AWESAM and other national educational events.
- Developing educational resources, toolkits and online content.
- Supporting resident doctor education and regional teaching.
- Promoting multidisciplinary education and collaboration.
- Working with other SAM committees and external organisations to support education across Acute Medicine.
We're always looking for new ideas. If there's a topic you'd like to see covered, a speaker you'd recommend, or an educational project you'd like to get involved with, we'd love to hear from you.
Share Your Ideas
The best educational ideas don't always come from committees - they come from our members!
We're always looking for suggestions for webinars, podcasts, educational resources and new projects. If there's a topic you'd like to see covered, someone you'd recommend as a speaker, or an idea that could improve education in Acute Medicine, we'd love to hear from you.
