Nick Murch
President
Nick Murch is the President for SAM, having been a consultant in Acute Medicine for over ten years, and is currently at the Royal Free Hospital, London where he also leads on team-based and part-task simulation. He trained at University of Wales College of Medicine (Cardiff) and has trained in South Wales and North London. Nick has been an active SAM member for over 15 years, regularly shortlisting and marking posters, as well as helping co-host the hybrid SAM London conference in 2021.
He is an Honorary Clinical Associate Professor with UCL Medical School as well as having previously been the Acute Medicine Training Programme Director for Acute Medicine in North Central and East London for eight years. Recently he has been helping to rewrite the Acute Medicine Higher Specialty Training curriculum. Nick also sits on the editorial board of the society’s publication, the Acute Medicine Journal.
In his ‘spare’ time he is an author and accomplished ultramarathon and ice swimmer, who also helps mentor others for events such as swimming the English Channel. He is well known to be built for comfort and not for speed.
