FAMUS DVT/peripheral vascular module
The DVT/peripheral vascular module aims to teach competence in the assessment of deep venous thrombosis. Specifically, it will allow practitioners to ‘rule in’ the presence of a DVT. In addition, it will teach the skills to use ultrasound to guide peripheral venous cannulation.
The table below outlines the minimum training times and core procedures that candidates are expected to achieve:
Supervised scans (minimum)
5 scans for rule in DVT
Mentored scans (indicative minimum)
Further 5 scans (10 legs)
Indicative minimum training time
1 month from 1st supervised scan
Core pathologies to be achieved
- DVT
- Minimum 5 supervised or mentored (depending on trainee experience) US guided peripheral vascular cannulation
The training process is outlined in full details in the curriculum pack
