SAM AGM, Monday 22 September 2025

Annual General Meeting of the Society for Acute Medicine
Exchange Auditorium, Manchester Central

(Virtual link available)
Monday 22nd September 2025 5.45pm

Dear SAM member,

The Annual General Meeting of the Society for Acute Medicine will be held on Monday 22nd September. We will be holding this meeting in person; however, you are all invited to join with a virtual link if you prefer.

The AGM is your opportunity to hear about SAM activity and strategy directly from the SAM Directors. The SAM finance accounts, membership numbers, and recent election results will be presented.

At this AGM we will also be ratifying new members of council and seeking to get our proposed revised articles discussed. These have already been emailed to you. The main change allows us to provide reimbursement for the President’s time (equivalent of 2 Programmed activities 2PA).

Council have discussed this idea for several years and have closely engaged with our lay members and legal team about this proposal, before putting it to our members. The role of President involves a large volume of work, elements of which are undertaken by salaried Executive teams in similar sized medical societies. SAM does not currently have any such salaried roles and so all this falls to the President and Council to enact. This workload is progressively increasing as the Society grows.

This proposal will allow the President to ensure they have dedicated time in their job plans to undertake these vital roles on behalf of our members; it will support members to apply in future without concern that they may not be able to afford to drop hours in order to have the time to take on the Presidential workload. It will support the Society to continue to progress and develop and represent all members to the best of our ability. We strongly support this initiative and are looking forward to discussing the plans further at the AGM.

We will be asking members to vote on these and as per our articles we will accept proxy votes (section 7.8) as well as those attending in person.

Those attending in person and virtually will be asked to vote using Slido.  The link to vote will be provided via an onscreen QR code.

Your attendance is therefore greatly valued by SAM Council as it helps ensure we are acting with the support of the membership.

Yours sincerely,

Dr Neil Patel
Secretary for Society Acute Medicine
