Emma Rowlandson
Wellbeing Committee (Flourish on the Frontline) Lead
Emma is a longstanding member of the Society for Acute Medicine and a Consultant in Acute Medicine at West Middlesex Hospital, where she has worked since 2012. She graduated from the University of Newcastle Medical School in 2002 and completed her postgraduate training across London, achieving her CCT in Acute Medicine in 2012. She is a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and completed an MBA through the NHS Apprenticeship Scheme in 2024.
Emma has held several key clinical leadership roles, including Service Director for Ambulatory Emergency Care—where she led the design and launch of the unit at West Middlesex Hospital in 2014—Service Director for Acute Medicine, Clinical Director for Medical Specialties, and most recently, Clinical Director for Strategy, Integration and Partnerships.
Her Educational Leadership experience includes serving as a Royal College of Physicians Tutor, local IMT Training Programme Director (TPD), Regional TPD for Stage 1 IMT in North West London, and currently Pan-London Lead for Stage 1 IMT. Through these roles, Emma has developed a deep interest in promoting wellbeing and preventing burnout among healthcare professionals.
As SAM’s Wellbeing Committee Lead, she is committed to supporting colleagues to flourish on the frontline, enhancing professional fulfilment, and advancing the development of acute medicine as a sustainable and rewarding specialty.
Emma is also passionate about collaborative working across health and social care, improving patient experiences and outcomes, and addressing health inequalities through innovative, patient-centred service design.
Outside of work, she enjoys spending time with her family, cooking, and playing sport—particularly netball and yoga.
