The Society for Acute Medicine is proud to support International Nurses Day on 12 May, and we’re asking all members to get involved. This year, we’re gathering real patient feedback to celebrate the incredible work of our acute medical nursing teams. Please share the QR-coded poster and printable version with your patients during your tea rounds on 12 May so they can complete the sentence: “I would like to thank my acute medical nurse for…” We’ll collate and share the feedback so our nurses can see the impact they make every day.
Keep an eye out for SAM’s next CPD While You Wee, which will be dedicated to our nursing colleagues this month too.
We are also extremely excited to announce that Phase 1 of the Acute Medicine Capability Framework for Nurses will be released this year. This marks the first step in our four‑phase programme to support acute medical nurses to develop, progress, and strengthen our professional identity.
Phase 1 will be published alongside Acute Medicine Capability Framework for Nurses: Shaping the Future of Acute Medicine, which sets out our vision for how we will grow and elevate the profession. These documents have been developed in collaboration with UKAONS, the RCN, and NHSE, reflecting a united commitment to advancing acute medical nursing.
The RCN Urgent and Emergency Care Forum is also supporting the growth of acute medical nursing, and we look forward to working closely with them over the next 12 months: https://www.rcn.org.uk/Get-Involved/Forums/Urgent-and-Emergency-Care-Forum
To help build community and share innovation across the UK, we host regular SAM Nurse Forums on Microsoft Teams. You do not need to be a SAM member to attend. These sessions are a great opportunity to meet other acute medical nurses, share ideas, and showcase best practice. Please email nurserep@acutemedicine.org.uk if you wish to join.
