Vinay Reddy-Kolanu
Quality and Innovation Committee Lead Candidate
I joined SAM in 2009, and I attend SAM conferences regularly.
For over a decade, I served as the clinical lead of one of the busiest AMUs in the UK, a role I stepped down from in 2024. I established an SDEC in 2012 and oversaw the significant growth of our team. We expanded consultants 3-15, AIM registrars from 2-4, 16 new IMT3s, IMT level doctors 6-30. I was key in establishing a large, innovative, and substantively funded AMU pharmacy team.
As the AIM TPD, West Midlands, I have been dedicated to maintaining the excellent reputation of our programme. Our programme has consistently recruited to 100%. As the AIM SAC, I am committed to ensuring the equitable and high-quality delivery of the AIM curriculum. Over the past year, I have introduced several significant changes that have not only enhanced the reputation of our training but also improved its delivery.
I am effective when I use innovative quality improvement strategies focused on delivering a carefully considered outcome. A deep, compassionate understanding of the underlying issues and a realistic, patient, and resilient approach usually yield the appropriate solution. My recent successes using this approach include substantively introducing same day echo and Holter, procuring a static retinal camera for SDEC, and introducing multiple hot clinic pathways through SDEC.
I have helped resident doctors, pharmacists, nurses, ACPs, and consultants consolidate ideas and data, analyse and present their findings as posters and presentations at many SAM conferences. I have helped publish several papers in peer reviewed journals, 2017 onwards, in fields from basic science to complex analysis of SDEC admissions, some published in the SAM journal.
I am excited about the opportunity to lead the SAM’s quality and innovation committee. I believe my experience and skills make me well suited for this role.
