The Acute Medicine Journal (https://acutemedjournal.co.uk/) is seeking an experienced and dedicated Consultant in Acute Medicine (or a closely related specialty) to take on the role of Editor-in-Chief. This is an exciting opportunity to lead a well-established journal, shaping the direction of acute medical research, education, and clinical practice through high-quality publications.
About the Role
This role requires strong editorial leadership, a passion for academic publishing, and an ability to manage the peer-review process efficiently. The incoming editor will work closely with our editorial board, reviewers, and authors to maintain the journal’s reputation for excellence.
The role demands dedication of time, but the editorial team will provide administrative support. This is a paid position, with a remuneration of £1,500 per issue (4 issues per year). The initial term of appointment is two years, subject to review.
Key Responsibilities
- Editorial Oversight: Ensure the journal maintains high standards in content, quality, and integrity.
- Manuscript Management: Oversee the peer-review process, working with reviewers to ensure timely and constructive feedback.
- Content Curation: Select and commission high-quality articles that align with the latest developments in acute medicine.
- Strategic Leadership: Shape the journal’s future direction, developing initiatives to enhance its impact and readership.
- Liaison & Collaboration: Engage with the editorial board, authors, reviewers, and our publishing team to ensure smooth workflow.
- Ethical Compliance: Uphold rigorous ethical standards in medical publishing.
- Promotion & Engagement: Advocate for the journal within the medical and academic communities to drive readership and submissions.
Who We’re Looking For
- A Consultant in Acute Medicine (or a closely related discipline) with a strong academic background.
- Membership in good standing with the Society of Acute Medicine (SAM) is desirable but not essential.
- Experience in medical publishing, reviewing, or editorial work is desirable but not essential.
- A keen eye for scientific rigor and a commitment to promoting evidence-based medicine.
- Strong organizational and leadership skills to manage the editorial workflow.
- The ability to dedicate sufficient time to meet publishing deadlines.
