Naeem Meghjee

New Consultant Representative Candidate

I am a dual-accredited Consultant in Acute Internal Medicine and Intensive Care Medicine, currently in the early years of my consultant career, and I believe I am well placed to represent and advocate for new consultants nationally through the Society for Acute Medicine and thus would like to apply for the New Consultant Representative position.

My leadership experience reflects a sustained commitment to collaboration and professional development. As joint clinical lead representative and educational representative for Higher Specialty Trainees in Acute Medicine, I gained insight into shaping training environments and advocating for trainees at regional and national levels. I also initiated and chaired a peer mentoring programme for ICU trainees, demonstrating my ability to build supportive professional networks, which is something I would seek to develop further within the new consultant community.

In my current role, I work across multiple specialities, giving me a wide-reaching perspective on multi-disciplinary collaboration, one of the core expectations of this role. Additionally, as a regional Faculty of Acute Medicine Ultrasound (FAMUS) lead, I have supported the development of point-of-care ultrasound skills across our region. I am particularly keen to support new consultants in integrating FAMUS into their clinical practice and will advocate for educational resources and forums that empower them to confidently utilise these skills.

I would approach this role as a proactive ambassador, promoting SAM’s values, supporting takeAIM Fellows, and acting as a conduit between new consultants and the SAM Council. With a clear understanding of the challenges faced during the transition from training to consultancy, I would bring enthusiasm, integrity, and a collaborative mindset to this position, aiming to foster innovation and inclusivity across our acute medicine community.
