Jamie Phillips
Trainee Representative 2025 Candidate
As a trainee who is passionate about their specialty, and an active member of the ecoSAM Sustainability SIG group, I believe I am well suited to the role of New Trainee Representative. The experience gained throughout my training has equipped me with the skills outlined in the person specification.
I have been involved in the multi-disciplinary ecoSAM Sustainability SIG since its inception, actively contributing to regular meetings and delivering sessions at regional AIM teaching. I will present an upcoming SAM webinar in June, having contributed to the SAM Hot Weather guidance alongside the wider MDT. This demonstrates experience in meeting participation, and the production of formal documents and analyses. It is clear that these skills will be useful as trainee representative.
I was Medicine Deployment Lead at East Cheshire NHST, working with staffing and executives in the hiring and allocation of resident doctors. I acted as trainee representative for Guardian of Safe Working reviews at WWL NHST during my foundation programme. This required me to be impartial when addressing trainee related issues. I have also undertaken junior rota coordination at numerous trusts. All of these roles required advocacy for trainees, interpersonal skills, as well as organisational skills which would translate to the council role. I am also in the process of completing a formal Medical Leadership module via Edge Hill University.
Directly involving trainees, I am a listed FAMUS supervisor, and have supported colleagues in their accreditation. I also acted as panellist for the most recent Internal Medicine Training interviews.
Most importantly, I love my specialty and my acute medical colleagues. I regularly attend conferences and enjoy sharing a breadth of experience across regions. I would be well suited to identifying and representing the needs of higher specialty trainees and both improving and promoting Acute Internal Medicine training.
