Advanced Clinical Practice Representative
Elaine has been an ANP in Acute Medicine for some 20 years. Alongside her clinical work she has been involved in a lot of quality improvement work particularly around flow and process efficiency in acute medicine and same day emergency care. She is currently on council for the Society of Acute Medicine as Advanced Clinical Practice representative after first becoming a member of SAM some 21 years ago after one of the first SAM conferences in Glasgow. Since then she has presented QI work at several SAM conferences winning the 1st prize for QI work on electronic whiteboard for acute medicine. She was elected to council in 2020.
Publications include Glasgow Blatchford Score in GI bleeding, Care bundles in Non Invasive Ventilation and Electronic Whiteboard in Acute Medicine. She has sat on various steering groups including the RCPE QI projects team and workforce redesign team for the largest Scottish Health Board, and chairs multiple educational meetings.
Due to the evolution of same day emergency care and rapid assessment and treatment in front door medicine she has been heavily involved in the setting up and delivery of acute emergency ambulatory care. Her acute medicine sessions are within Same Day Emergency Care and ambulatory VTE services. Currently with a special interest in the unprovoked and long term risk group looking at longer term review, treatment and the development of the virtual clinic as a means of realistic medicine and process innovation.
