SAM welcomes new Secretary of State for Health and Social Care

The Society for Acute Medicine welcomes the new Secretary of State for Health and Social Care to his post at what may prove to be one of the most challenging times for the NHS in our history.

Not only are we seeing a resurgence of community Covid-19 cases that have so far not impacted on hospitals in great numbers but we are under massive pressure in acute care for many well-described reasons – both historical and more recent.

We would urge him to speak and listen to expert opinion from across the board regarding acute care and to try to form a positive relationship with specialists that was sadly lacking with his predecessors in post as it would be to the benefit of everyone to work together.

On that note, we will set out our agenda to the SoS in the coming days and look forward to engaging in positive discussions with him in the coming months.
