SUMMARY:SAM Educational Evening\, 24 September 2026\, online
DESCRIPTION:SAM Educational Evening: The Acute Take: Growing Up with Chroni
 c Disease\nThursday 24 September 2026\n1900-2100hrs\nZoom webinar\n\n2 Cat
egory 1 (external) CPD credits will be applied for with the Federation of
the Royal Colleges of Physicians of the United Kingdom.\nThe webinar is fr
ee to attend for SAM members. Non-members are required to pay a fee of £1
5 per webinar.\n\nSession Overview and Learning Objectives\n\nAdvances in
paediatric and specialist care mean that more people than ever are living
well into adulthood with childhood-onset chronic conditions. As a result\,
acute care teams increasingly encounter patients whose physiology\, treat
ments\, communication needs and healthcare journeys differ from the "typic
al" adult medical patient.\n\nFor many\, an admission to the Acute Medical
Unit is one of their first encounters with adult acute healthcare\, makin
g it essential that acute clinicians understand the challenges of transiti
on and adapt their approach to meet individual patient needs.\n\nThe chall
enge is not becoming an expert in every rare condition. It is recognising
when our usual approach needs to adapt.\n\nUsing three contrasting but com
plementary examples\, this webinar explores how altered physiology\, advan
ced therapies and medical technology\, and communication needs influence t
he care of adults living with lifelong conditions in the acute setting.\n\
nBy the end of this webinar\, participants will be able to:\n\n- Recognise
the increasing number of adults living with childhood-onset chronic condi
tions presenting to acute medical services.\n- Describe how altered physio
logy\, advanced therapies and medical technologies\, and communication nee
ds may require adaptation of the usual acute medical approach.\n- Identify
practical approaches to the assessment and management of adults with cong
enital heart disease\, diabetes technology and learning disabilities in th
e acute setting.\n- Recognise when specialist advice and multidisciplinary
working are required to optimise patient care.\n- Apply principles of per
sonalised\, patient-centred care to improve outcomes for adults living wit
h lifelong conditions.\n\nMore information and Register here
