Professionalism in Medicine: Your pension & your skills in clinical management

Tuesday 10 March 2020

Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh & Live Link Sites across the UK

We are delighted to present our next event in the ‘Professionalism in Medicine’ series with an evening in which you will have the opportunity to understand better how the current pensions issue may affect you now and in the future and perhaps for the first time fully appreciate how consultants have the capacity to transfer their skills to that of leadership roles.

This event is suitable for all doctors in training, consultants and associate specialists.

The programme and speakers are as follows:

Clinical Management: the transfer of skills we are choosing not to transfer

Dr Jon Miles, Consultant Physician, Western General Hospital, Edinburgh

Learning Objectives

  • Description of the breadth of clinical management opportunities
  • Understanding that we as doctors practice the skills on a daily basis that enable us to become clinical managers
  • An exploration of why we see “clinical management” as something “different” and something “to be avoided”

Update on NHS Pensions & Taxation

Dr Alan Robertson, Consultant Cardiologist, Ninewells Hospital, Dundee

Learning Objectives

  • Understand the structure and benefits of the NHS Pension Schemes
  • Understand the impact of taxation on the NHS Pension Scheme
