Following the Public Enquiry into the events at Mid-Staffs hospital between 2005-2009, Robert Francis QC launched his full report and recommendations today at 11.30. Many of these recommendations have a direct relevance for members of the Society for Acute Medicine and others working in Acute Medical Units. We urge all of our members to read the report carefully.
Acute Medical Units play a key role in providing high quality, safe and compassionate care for patients admitted to hospital in an emergency. All staff working in acute medicine must continue to make this their priority. This report highlights the need for all health care practitioners to examine their practice to ensure that lessons are learned and changes are made so that these failings are never repeated.
The executive summary and the full report are available on the Mid Staffordshire NHS Foundation Trust Public Inquiry website.
