Ian Setchfield is an Acute Care Nurse Consultant, currently working for East Kent University Hospitals Foundation NHS Trust. This innovative post aims to support the organisation in meeting the increasing pressures facing urgent care face by providing a senior clinical nursing career pathway which works collaboratively with both medical and allied health professionals to deliver a ‘person centred’ pathway to patient care. Prior to this Ian worked as a Critical Care Matron and before joining the NHS in 2005 served for 13 years as member of the Critical Care Air Support Team in the Royal Air Force. Ian is passionate about effective clinical leadership, ensuring a ‘whole system approach’ is utilised with which all staff are encouraged to play an active role in the continual development of the services we provide. Along with service development and education, he is very interested in patient safety especially surround the deteriorating patient, transfer and sepsis.
